The gallery's history

In March 2023 the Galerie Massillon was acquired by internationally renowned artist, Angie Brooksby-Arcangioli. An art sponsor offered it for her.

The gallery is one of the best art spaces on the French Riviera. It is on the main pedestrian street in the historic center of Hyères les Palmières, a famous artists community. It is highly visited. Hundreds of people visit the gallery each week. In the high season over 100 people a day may enter.

After WWII it was a butcher shop. The ceramic letters attached to the façade are historically protected. Later it was transformed into an art gallery. Many artists and creators have shown there in the past ten years. It was the home of a local art association with many amateur artists. Each week people from all over the Riviera come to see the new show.

Angie found that the gallery needed some love. She cleaned it up, cleared the energy, and invested in some upgrades.

She is very selective as to whom she allows to exhibit.

Her optic for the gallery is to offer it to contemporary professional artists and to young artists.

En mars 2023, la Galerie Massillon a été acquise par une artiste de renommée internationale, Angie Brooksby-Arcangioli. Un mécène lui l'a offert.

La galerie est l'un des meilleurs espaces d'art de la Côte d'Azur. Elle se trouve dans la principale rue piétonne du centre historique d'Hyères les Palmières, une communauté d'artistes réputée. Il est très visité. Des centaines de personnes visitent la galerie chaque semaine. En haute saison, plus de 100 personnes par jour peuvent y entrer.

Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, c'était une boucherie. Les lettres en céramique attachées à la façade sont historiquement protégées. Plus tard, elle a été transformée en galerie d'art. De nombreux artistes et créateurs y ont exposé au cours des dix dernières années. C'était le siège d'une association artistique locale avec de nombreux artistes amateurs. Chaque semaine, des gens de toute la Côte d'Azur viennent voir la nouvelle exposition.

Angie a constaté que la galerie avait besoin d'un peu d'amour. Elle l'a nettoyée, repeint, et a investi dans des améliorations. Elle est très sélective quant aux personnes qu'elle autorise à exposer.

Son objectif est d'offrir la galerie à des artistes professionnels contemporains et les jeunes artistes.

Since March 2023 Angie Brooksby is the owner of the

Angie Brooksby-Arcangioli grew up among artists and scientists. At age 8 she studied life drawing at University of California in Los Angeles, UCLA. At 12 she was apprenticed to a Japanese potter. She had the great luck to study with Dr. Margaret Dowell, author of Art and Addiction, and with Johnathon Shahn, the son of Ben Shahn, and with Fulbright scholar, Jean Baldini. She was invited to attend selective art programs. She won many prizes for her black and white photography before moving on to sculpture. In 1983 she was admitted to Maryland Institute College of Art, MICA, a sister school to the Chicago Institute. She was awarded prestigious scholarships from senators and foundations. In 1986 she attended S.A.C.I in Florence, Italy and then studied at the Academia di Belle Arti in Florence. She's been interviewed by NBC, NIKKEI TV, and others. She's been in documentaries about art. She is a realist painter often compared to Edward Hopper. She sells her work in commercial galleries.

Angie Brooksby-Arcangioli a grandi au milieu d'artistes et de scientifiques. À l'âge de 8 ans, elle a étudié le dessin d'après nature à l'université de Californie à Los Angeles (UCLA). À 12 ans, elle est devenue l'apprentie d'un potier japonais. Elle a eu la chance d'étudier avec le Dr Margaret Dowell, auteur de Art and Addiction, et avec Johnathon Shahn, le fils de Ben Shahn, ainsi qu'avec Jean Baldini, boursier Fulbright. Elle a été invitée à participer à des programmes artistiques sélectifs. Elle a remporté de nombreux prix pour ses photographies en noir et blanc avant de passer à la sculpture. En 1983, elle est admise au Maryland Institute College of Art, MICA, une école sœur de l'Institut de Chicago. Elle reçoit des bourses prestigieuses de sénateurs et de fondations. The Town

The town of Hyères is an artists’ community with important museums, La Banque, Villa Noailles, Musée du Niel , and the Fondation Carmignanc. The Parcours des Arts with dozens of artists and artisans weaves through the historic center. There are several art galleries, LM Studio, galerie Marie Poscia, Elisabeth Serre, Galerie Françoise Dedon, Villa Fouin.

Hyères was a holiday destination where English aristocrats came to winter. The Villa Magdala was their residence and now it is a place of art and culture.

The city winds up the hilltop to a castle with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean and the Golden Islands. In 2024 the Summer Olympic games will be here for sailing.

La ville d'Hyères est une communauté d'artistes avec deux importants musées, La Banque et Villa Noailles. Le Parcours des Arts traverse le centre historique. D'autres galeries d'art sont LM Studio et la galerie Marie Poscia. C'était une destination de vacances où les aristocrates anglais venaient passer l'hiver.. Leur résidence est maintenant un lieu d'artistes et culture, la Villa Magdala.

La ville d'Hyères serpente au sommet d'une colline jusqu'à un château qui offre une vue imprenable sur la Méditerranée et les îles d'Or. En 2024, les Jeux olympiques d'été y seront organisés pour le s la voile.
