Peintures plein air de Angie Brooksby et les artistes de la galerie
La collection d'automne des peintures plein air de Hyères et de ses environs sont disponibles jusqu’au 31 décembre. Ces petits formats à l’huile, peints sur le motif par Brooksby — propriétaire de la Nouvelle Galerie Massillon — sont de magnifiques cadeaux pour une maison de vacances à Hyères. Ces œuvres documentent le paysage précieux tel qu’il est aujourd’hui : un champ de la rue Soldat Macri, une vue du fort de Brégançon, ou un cormoran prenant le soleil sur les rochers face à Porquerolles.
Documenter le paysage par la peinture sur le motif, pratique aujourd’hui connue sous le nom de plein air painting, est particulièrement important, car les champs sont rapidement transformés en immeubles. Cette approche, devenue centrale dans la peinture en extérieur, a été développée en France au XIXᵉ siècle par la célèbre École de Barbizon.
Brooksby est devenue propriétaire de la Galerie Massillon en mars 2023. Son objectif a toujours été de consacrer cet espace à la peinture plein air. Elle a peint en plein air en Toscane de 1990 à 2006, puis s’est installée à Paris où elle a travaillé aux jardins du Luxembourg et aux Tuileries, avant de devenir peintre d’atelier à cause du climat parisien. Elle a appris auprès de peintres à Livourne, là où travaillaient les célèbres Macchiaioli. Lorsqu’elle a déménagé à Hyères en 2021, elle est revenue à la peinture en extérieur, notamment sur les salins.
Née à New York et ayant grandi en Californie, elle a ensuite étudié au prestigieux Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). En 1987, elle a poursuivi sa formation avec le programme S.A.C.I. à Florence, où elle est restée vingt et un ans à peindre en plein air. Elle expose actuellement avec Carré d’Artistes à Paris, Marseille, Aix-en-Provence et Toulon. Ses peintures sont également disponibles sur Singulart et sur ArtMajeur.

New plein air paintings of Hyères and the surroundings are available through December 31. These small format oil paintings painted on site by Brooksby — the owner of the Nouvelle Galerie Massillon, are a great gift for the holiday home in Hyères. These works document the precious landscape as it is today, a field on rue Soldat Macri, a view of Fort de Bregançon, or a cormorant taking sun on the rocks overlooking Porquerolles. Documenting the landscape through plein air painting is especially important as the fields are quickly transformed into apartment buildings.
Brooksby became the owner of the Galerie Massillon in March 2023. Her goal has always been to dedicate the space to plein air painting.
She painted plein air in Tuscany from 1990-2006, then moved to Paris and painted in Luxembourg Gardens and the Tulleries but quickly turned into a studio painter because of the Parisian climate. She learned from painters in Livorno, where the renown Macchiololi painted. When she moved to Hyères in 2021 she returned to painting outdoors particularly on the salt flats.
She was born New York and grew up in California then attended the prestigious Art Institute MICA in Maryland. 1n 1987 she studied in Florence with S.A.C.I. and remained for 21 years, painting en plein air. She currently exhibits with Carré d’Artistes in Paris, Marseilles, Aix-en-Provence and Toulon. Her paintings are available on Singulart and on ArtMajeur.
